Symposium on conservation of historical environment in the area of Hue’s imperial tombs and the peripheries
On August 16, 2010, Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the UNESCO World Heritage-Waseda University (Heritage-Waseda) cooperated to organize the Symposium on conservation of historical environment in the area of Hue’s imperial tombs and the peripheries at Duyet Thi Duong (Dai Noi, Hue)

This is one of many activities belonging to the Joint Research, Training and Preservation Program in Hue monuments between HueMonumentsConservationCenter and the UNESCOWorldHeritage-WasedaUniversity (Heritage-Waseda) from 2005 to 2012. In the domain of Hue historic urban planning research, two sides had cooperated in the survey on water network of Hue Citadel (2007), the survey on water network of some royal tombs during 2008-2009 and historic landscape environment at Hue royal tombs and peripheries in 2010. Especially, the joint research 2010 was conducted by the young researchers from Hue Monuments Conservation Center (HMCC), Heritage-Waseda and the Architectural Department of Hue College of Sciences from August 3 -15, 2010 under the guidance of some Japanese urban planning experts  and the consultation in field of history and conservation  management of HMCC’s leaders.

At the Symposium, researcher groups presented their results of field survey and historical document research to analyze the geomancy’s values of historical landscape environment at some typical Nguyen royal tombs and peripheries, evaluate the present situation of historical landscape environment of some royal tombs, propose the planning to protect the historical landscape environment and a draft Guidelines on the Regeneration of the Traditional Environmental Management System (Ecological System) in the area of Imperial Tombs’ Peripheries.

The Symposium had honor to welcome Mr. Ngo Hoa, Vice Chairman the Provincial People’s Committee, representatives from provincial organizations, media press, and participants from the Architecture, Urban Planning and Rural Institute, UNESCO Office Hanoi, National Department of Cultural Heritage, the Division of Cultural Foreign Affairs and UNESCO. 

The Symposium also received many valuable comments and suggestions of experts and managers in the field of urban planning and monument conservation. At the end of the Symposium, all participants agreed with the The Proposed Guideline on the Protection of the Historical landscape environment in the area of Imperial Tombs that will contribute to the Master Management Plan  of Hue Monument Complex and Master Plan of Hue city, as well as the Development Orientation Planning of Thua Thien-Hue province.
